Why it exists
If you live with a food allergy, an intolerance, or even a firm food preference, every meal starts with a question: Is this safe for me? Ingredient lists are written for regulators, not for people. Allergens hide behind E-numbers and Latin plant names, and "may contain" warnings raise more questions than they answer. I wanted that question answered in seconds, in the moment, not after ten minutes of squinting at a label.
What it does
FoodVetta checks any food against your personal profile (allergies, intolerances, and food preferences) and gives you a clear answer: safe for you, or not, and why. It happens in the app, on your phone, where the decision is actually made: in the supermarket aisle, at the restaurant, at a friend's place.
How it's built
The mobile app is built with Expo (React Native), backed by a Next.js web surface that hosts the API the app calls, an internal review tool where food records are checked before they reach users, and the marketing site with food guides.
